A Lazy Day

It's a lazy day in Pelham. At least it's overcast and so not as hot as usual. I'm hoping that Alex in the Gulf doesn't cause trouble for the oil spill. We'll see.

Summer Thunderstorm

A big summer thunderstorm has passed over our area. There sure was a lot of lighning and thunder. It seemed like the house shook. But it has passed now and so it's just wet and humid.

And the Beat Goes on

It's hot, my van is still in the shop, and I don't like this Jeep rental car. And the beat goes on.

Service Day

This was an air-conditioner service day. We had routine service AC service for the season; 2 hours afters after the men left, the unit outside starting making a noise. Turns out the motor that makes the fan run had quit. We had to call them back out. Now our water is out. There is a break down the street. Don't know when we'll have our water back. Maybe we'll have to rough it till tomorrow. Who knows.

Already

It's already blazing hot in Alabama. The air comes on. Moyna gets apoplectic thinking about impending power bills. Pay up or be hot I tell her.

The Cats

We take the cats for their annual shots. Doo-Rail has another red spot on his bottom. We're hoping that an antihistamine will take care of it. Otherwise, these 12 1/2 yr. old cats seem OK.

Friday Afternoon

Moyna has an afternoon Coumadin appointment. We stop by PF Chang's on the way back. Moyna is not wild about about this restaurant but I do love their Dali chicken. It's my favorite restaurant entree.

Dealing with Gout

It's come and gone the last few years. For the last three weeks it's been in my left foot and it won't go away. I went to the doctor and I'm taking meds now for high uric acid and a new one from inflammation. Gout is painful arthritis in the joints. It hit's me in the feet around the big toes. I'm tired of it.

Banana Pudding

Sometimes little things can thrill you. I had some marvelous banana pudding today in Troy at a meat and vegetable restaurant. How good it was! And I am not a great banana pudding fan.

I Take Notice

I take notice of things that remind me of the way things used to be. There is a Greyhound bus speeding down I-65 toward Montgomery and I remember the Greyhound days when the buses ran everywhere and they even stopped in my hometown of Winfield and people would actually take a Greyhound to faraway places like Dallas and El Paso (It used to be a long way to Dallas and El Paso) and riding the bus was perfectly respectable thing to do. The last time I was on a Greyhound was between Modesto and San Francisco and the bus ran out of gas on the Bay Bridge between Oakland and San Francisco. Step out of a bus on the Bay Bridge with hundreds of cars speeding by and step on to another one as you look down, down to the water of San Francisco Bay and you’ll know what it’s like to be alive.

A (Mis)Adventure

What a (mis)adventure I had today. Driving down Wilderness Road, I swerved while looking for my cell phone and ran over a cement block that covers a opening for water drainage on the street. I blew out both tires on the right side of the car. No other car damage is evident. I had the car towed and now I'm driving a rental car. You live and learn, but mostly you live.
