High School Football

Friday night football is back, and I saw something last night I've been looking for since I started following Pelham football in 1997. Pelham actually played defense!

The Panthers beat Oak Mountain 24 to 0, forcing 6 turnovers. Defense carried the night.

The offense sputtered at times, should have scored more with the advantage of 6 turnovers, but with the advantage of a senior QB, the offense will be OK---not great, but OK.

The defense seems pretty solid, led by Auburn linebacker commitment Jake Holland and Florida State bound Nigel Terrell. The defense seems hard hitting and aggressive. I do not know how good Oak Mountain is, but I do know it's a good start for Pelham, and this should be a playoff team.

The End of August

August of 2009 is quickly coming to an end. The last weekend of the month starts on a wet Friday morning. I see that we had some rain overnight. High school football starts tonight. I plan on attending the Pelham-Oak Mountain game. Auburn has a signee who plays middle linebacker for the Panthers. Travis from next door came by last selling drinks for his middle school fundraiser. Moyna ordered something or other. That little squirt is playing football this year. He says he's a defensive back. He's looks so thin a strong wind could blow him over!

Back in Auburn

It's good to be back on the campus of Auburn University, a real university! This is where I got my start, and I can truthfully say that I owe whatever little success I've had in life to Auburn. I wouldn't have it any other way.

The Rain and Other Things

I write this as a slow rain permeates Shelby County. It's gentle and well-meaing---not like the spin-off rain of a Gulf Coast hurricane. It's nice and I'm relaxing with it. I've had a scratchy throat the last two days. Heckuva a thing for August, huh?

Home from another Sales Meeting

I am SO glad to be home from another company sales meeting, this one in Miami. I could live with never going to another one.

August Comes

August comes and I'm ready. We've had much rain lately. That is only good as far as I know. I am using Moyna's new HP computer. So far, so good. We were talking this morning about Miami and the time Moyna drove down there and we were disappointed about how lackluster Miami Beach looked and we remarked about the old people sitting outside their condos on the beach and at that time I thought how nice to retire with money in Miami but today you couldn't pay me enough dollars to retire down there.
