The Last Day of the Year

The year 2009 dribbles to an end on a cold and mostly cloudy but light Thursday. There is not much to say. I plan on watching the Chick-Fil-A Bowl tonight. Moyna can't believe it was just two years ago we were in Atlanta for Auburn and Clemson. I think I will always remember that bowl trip. Moyna likes the candles she received from Dawn for Christmas so I find her the same ones at Target in Alabaster. Moyna talks to Judy Rice in mid-afternoon.

The Last Days of 2009

We took Doo-Rail to North Shelby this morning. The blood work looks good. At the moment he is doing OK.

2010 is Coming

These last few days of 2009 begin on a cold and clear day in Shelby County. It seems like "only yesterday" that we were rolling over to 2000 with all that 2YK nonsense. Now we come to 2010. Does time fly or what?

Quiet Sunday

It's a quiet Sunday in Shelby County. Not many people at Wal Mart. But Panera Bread is busy. The Sound of Music is on tonight. Doo-Rail continues to seem to be OK.

The Day After Christmas 2009

It's a lovely partly sunny but cold day in Shelby County. I pick up Doo-Rail first thing from the Emergency Clinic in Bessemer. He seems to be doing OK.

Christmas Day 2009

It was our first truly different Christmas.
We go to the Herrings in Muscle Shoals as usual but this time Freddy meets us from Arkansas. He drove over yesterday from Little Rock.
We have our usual jolly Christmas.
Everyone seems to be doing well.
Tony is over from Atlanta.
We were hoping to see Tiffany's friend Michael and Dawn's mother Ann, but no such luck.
Still we had our usual good get-together.

Christmas Eve 2009

We are preparing to meet Freddy at the Herrings in Muscle Shoals tomorrow. Freddy will be driving there today. It's been raining in Little Rock, and will likely rain on his trip thru Memphis and on over to Alabama.

Sick Cat (2)

Yesterday Doo-Rail left the emergency clinic in Bessemer Monday morning and after passing thru North Shelby, our regular vet location, he came home. This morning he had two periods of disorientation and this afternoon he had an ultrasound done at the other emergency clinic off I-459. The bottom line is that our diabetic cat has an inflamed pancreas and crytals in his urine. We hope to stabilize him with diet and an additional antibiotic and then change the diet to get rid of the crystals. It's never a dull moment with this cat.

Sick Cat

We noticed yesterday that Doo-Rail seemed to not feel well. We are up around 4 this morning as he seems to try voiding but can’t. He keeps going back to the litter, sitting on it, but nothing happens and then he talks as if he’s hurting. I take him to the emergency clinic off 459. Dr. Hughes examines and thinks the cat is not blocked unless he just became blocked and the bladder hasn’t had a chance to expand. His BG is 450 but maybe this is the peak before his usual dosage of insulin around 7. Since no urine specimen is forthcoming, we leave him for the day to wait for a urine sample.

Then we end up leaving Doo-Rail for the night because he has not yet been able to void. I consult with Dr. Stronach at North Shelby. We are doing the best we can with our light cat.

Another Saturday

It's cold and gloomy looking in Pelham. The countdown to Christmas and the end of another year continues.

A Week Before Christmas

It's raining heavily as we rise in Shelby County on this Friday a week before Christmas. It looks like it will rain most of the day.

The South

I read this quote from Michael Shannon about the South:

"The way the air is down there, you really start to understand why people don’t talk very much. It’s hard to talk when it’s so humid, and you’re always kind of tired, and don’t really want to do anything unless you have to. It’s just in the air down there."

Two Weeks Before Christmas

Yes, Christmas comes in two weeks. December is speeding by as usual. Before you know it we'll be into 2010. It seems like only yesterday we were approaching 2000. How quickly time flies.

A Beautiful Winter's Day

I think I like cold, sunny winter days best, at least if the wind is not blowing. What a beautiful day in Shelby County!

A Dreary Day

It's a dreary, dreary day across central Alabama. It looks like we'll have a steady rain all day and then the threat of wind overnight.

Reese's

Today I found a limited edition Reese's peanut butter cups. They are the same as the ordinary cups, except that instead of a top chocolate layer there is layer of peanut butter. These Reese's are delicious. I love Reese's peanut Butter. I am still waiting until Reese's sells its peanut butter by the tub full.

Moyna Starts Her Holiday Baking

AFter watching "church," Moyna is making peanut butter balls as we watch CBS. This is our Sunday morning TV habit.

Cold Saturday

The day started cold and sullen, then the sun came out, and we had a nice day in Shelby County although it stayed cold all day. Moyna and I pretty much take it easy all day. Moyna is trying to get her holiday activities in order.

Tiger Woods

I hope the best for Woods and his family. His troubles are personal and should be kept private. However, these jokes were sent to me, and I thought them worth posting:

That's the first time Tiger Woods has failed to drive at least 300 yards.

Tiger Woods crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree - he couldn't decide between a wood and an iron.

I find it's a nightmare driving at 2:30 am: sometimes you can't see the Woods for the trees.

Tiger's wife went for him after he scored a birdie.

Q: What were Tiger Woods and his wife doing out at 2:30 in the morning?
A: His wife wanted to go clubbing.
