Crunchy Ice Outside

Here are pictures from where I live. It is whiter, icier, and snowier than yesterday.

We Keep up with the Weather

It's overcast and cold in the morning in Shelby County. Freddy says he has sleet in Little Rock and his library is closed today. This is the one time of the year for me to keep up with the weather; otherwise, it's never a big deal with me.

Cold Wind

It was in the low 50's today but with the wind blowing, it seemed much colder. That wind can fool you.

Rain, rain, go away

The rain set in early and it looks like it's going to rain all day in Shelby County. I've had enough rain!

Dull Saturday

As January winds to a close, we have a dull Saturday in Shelby County. It's cold and overcast and nothing is going on.

Stress Test

I have a cardiac stress test this morning. As far as I know, everything is OK.

Television Service

I will succumb to my urges to get television service.

I wanted to avoid watching television. I figured that there is very little that I really care about viewing; usually when the television is on, it is just filling space and sucking my time. So, I thought, why waste myself on watching it?

But I immediately had withdrawal. And now, I cannot take it any longer!

I feel that I have turned myself over to some massive, potent force that I simply no longer can fight. Maybe it is modernity, materialism, or connectedness that I have given in to, or something else just as alluring. My decision not to get television service, I felt, put me at the front lines of the resistance to the force. But, oh so quickly, have I retreated in shame, with nary a drop of sweat or blood to show.

What would Martin Luther King, Junior say about me? He dared to dream of a different future for a country...

What would Mohandas Gandhi say about me? He dared to defy a nation for independence...

What would the troops who bombarded Normandy say about me? They dared to risk they lives for a cause...

and I cannot simply keep myself from watching television!

Yes, T. S. Eliot, I ate the peach, and it is awfully bitter.

I do not have enough fortitude. Something noble inside me has faded.

It's Warmer Today

Yes, it's warmer today than it was over the weekend. Yesterday while we were out and about for medical services, we picked up dinner fom PF Changs. For the first time it wasn't so good---too well cooked. We have our heater checked today. All is in working order we are told.

The Sad Thing

I thought about going out to a movie today, but there is nothing playing that I care to see. I suppose "Avatar" is the big one out now yet I do not wish to see it. SF/fantasy simply doesn't interest me.

Cold and Clear

It's clear and mostly sunny but very cold in Shelby County. Freddy calls from Arkansas. He's out and about and it's cold up there too.

No Snow

We've had no snow in Alabama except flurries, but it is very cold.

Snow?

I hope NOT. Moyna always wishes for snow; I do not. I could live forever and never see snow again. We're supposed to have an inch or so tomorrow. Big deal.

Cold

It's so cold in Alabama. There is talk of snow Thursday/Friday. I hope not.

In Little Rock

Freddy and I had a marvelous time in Little Rock, visiting the Clinton Presidential Library and having dinner Sunday night. It's cold up there. There was snow on the ground between Memphis and Little Rock, and it was snowing this morning as I left Arkansas for Alabama.

Happy New Year

The first day of the year starts out dull and overcast, but by the end of the day, it's party sunny and nice. We watch football. What a thriller in Tampa! Auburn beats Northwestern 38 to 35 in overtime. Auburn seemed to have the game won 3 times, but turnovers and questionable officiating kept the Wildcats in the game. Finally the Tigers a field goal in overtime and we stop NW on a fake FG attempt to win the game. I'm just happy we won the game. Maybe this is a good omen for a good 2010.
