The End of February

February ends on a gorgeous Sunday in Shelby County---bright and sunny but cold. I can handle the cold as long as the wind isn't blowing and as long as it is not snowing. I hope we've ended all possibilities of snow for this winter.

At Chick-Fil-A

I ate at Chick-Fil-A last night. All the tables had white tablecloths, with a burning candle and a red rose. A lady in the corner played the violin. What is this madness?, I thought, when I happened into the scene. It all seemed wrong and misplaced. I felt like Jimmy Stewart peering into my neighbors' apartment - I could not fathom what I saw. This is only fast food, I thought. Oddly, the violin player had a fleeting resemblance to Grace Kelly.

The Snow is Gone for Now

By the end of the day the snow is gone from our yard under partly cloudy skies and temperatures that seem to reach into the upper 40's. There is talk of more snow Sunday night, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Snow in Alabama

It snows across central and south Alabama today. It's lightly coming down as I type these words. I don't care for snow. If I never saw snow again I would live happily ever after.

Catfish

I learn today that the state is the second biggest producer in the country of farm raised catfish. No wonder people here love catfish.

Finally a Good Looking Day

Finally we have a good looking winter's day in central Alabama as I drive South down I-65. Sunny winter days (as long as the wind isn't blowing) are my favorite kind of days.

Across Shelby County

It's a dreary, rainy day across Shelby County and then it will probably turn cold. This is Winter 2010.
